Thiruvalluvar Statue:
Thiruvalluvar Statue is 133 feet tall stone sculpture of the Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar, author of Thirukkural. The height of the statue 133 denotes the 133 chapters of Thirukkural.It was opened on Januvary 1, 2000. It has a total weight of 7000 tons.
The foundation to build the thiruvalluvar statue was laid on 1979. The installation of sculpting work began on1990. The picture at the left shows the foot of Thiruvalluvar Statue.The Poombuhar Shipping Cooperation runs boat service to this Statue. The boat searvice is operated from Mainland to Vivekananda Rock the Rock Memorial to Thiruvalluvar statue & Thiruvalluvar statue to Mainland.The boat service starts at 7.45am and ends at 4.30pm.
